SC Flood: Parrott Family Recovery

As many of you know, the historic flood that recently slammed the state of South Carolina has affected countless families.
I would like to bring special attention to the Parrott family of Columbia, SC in the Kings Grant neighborhood.
Sunday morning, as Krista Parrott woke up at 5 am to get ready to go to work, she was astonished to see waters rushing into her home as she left her bedroom. These flood waters were pouring in from the creek behind her house on the Fort Jackson property.
At this site, she realized that both her family and home were in imminent danger. After frantically waking up her husband, Talley, and her two children Maddy and Jack, they gathered as many precious items from the first floor as possible. They then retreated to the second floor of their home for safety.
Within the hour of Krista first noticing the flooding within their home, the waters had risen above 5 feet, completely covering the first floor of their home.
She was able to capture these photos from her stairwell. The family was left helpless, watching their home disappear before their eyes.
Along with the first floor of their home being demolished, their cars were totaled, and there is no insurance to cover this damage.
Yesterday and today, selfless members of our community, including family, friends, neighbors, and kind strangers came together to help remove all of their precious belongings to begin the restoration process.
Without insurance coverage, the Parrott family is in a financial crisis and at a total loss for what is to come in the future as part of rebuilding their home, but most importantly, moving on with their lives.
All we can ask for is any help that you can provide to ease their pain and to assist in their recovery.
