Ashley "Benny" Benson Medical Fund

Donation protected
A little over three years ago, Benny was rushed to the ER from work because her extremities were turning inward. Blood pressure, heart rate and the ability to breathe were all very irregular.  Muscles contracted so much that walking was difficult. After a few weeks of treatment at home, she toughed it up and got back at life only to crash even harder October 2016.  All of those symptoms from the initial crash were amplified and new symptoms surfaced.

This time it wasn’t just the ER multiple times, Benny was admitted to rule out either a heart attack or stroke due to the severity of her symptoms. Again, she was discharged and sent back to primary care and saw several specialists. All of them helped immensely, but still no true diagnosis to truly help make sense of the severity of these crashes.

Then the worst crash of all came November 2017. One day Benny was in a meeting and started seeing spots, she got very hot and her blood pressure was very high.

That was November 6, 2017 and she has not been able to return to work since.  With FMLA quickly running out, not only is her job on the line but so is her health insurance.

As a Nurse, having memory loss has been devastating. Benny can’t safely work while fishing for her words and unable to remember what she just did or what she was planning to do next. She experiences extreme fatigue, pain, and blurry vision. Her muscles and joints are affected. There are days where it’s difficult to close her hands and even move her fingers. The worst symptom of all is the breathing so she recently received a CPAP machine that she uses all throughout the day to ensure she’s getting enough oxygen because her body involuntarily stops breathing.

Benny and her wife, Shasta, have downsized to a tiny house so help with expenses but they need help with medical expenses.

She is seeing a Neurologist, Endocrinologist, Ophthalmologist and a Rheumatologist but the medical team still has not been able to provide Benny with a diagnosis but does suspect POTS and/or CIRS. She’s being referred to a specialist in Ohio and another in Colorado but the large expense is holding her back from further testing and treatment.

It’s hard for Benny to be the patient.  She is an RN and is supposed to be the healer, the fixer, the go to girl that makes people smile, the health coach, the athlete, the ball of energy who is trying to save the world, one piece of art or graffiti bridge painting at a time.

All funds raised will go toward her medical care and expenses in an effort to get her back to the Benny we all know and love. Any amount is deeply appreciated.
