Stella's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
I am reaching out from a place of unconditional love and hope. On Friday, October 20th, I was driving home from work on a beautiful and sunny day. During this drive home, to my disbelief I saw an abandoned and injured dog off the shoulder of the highway. Without even a second thought, I immediately pulled my car over. I approached this sweet dog carefully, and I saw she was trying to walk over to me, but couldn't. When I reached her, she laid down and let me gently pet her. She laid her head in my lap and licked my face...she was so gentle and calm. It was clear she had been in this spot for days given the matted grass around her. She had nowhere to go as the shoulder was blocked off with a chain link fence. She was emaciated with lacerations all over her body and a back leg that was extremely swollen and not able to be used. My heart immediately broke in two.

Thankfully, another good samaritan pulled over and sat with me as we tried to reach out to as many different rescues within the area. Unfortunately, we were unable to get a hold of any that could help. Our next step was to call in the police. When they arrived, they informed us there was not much more they could do for her than what I had planned on doing (calling all rescues and shelters and placing her), and they would have to take her to animal control or a humane society if they couldn't place her...which with her being an injured Pitbull mix it would not have likely ended well for her.

I called every rescue, animal hospital, Detroit Pit Crew, DDK,  and shelter within the area and no one was able to take her/help her (understandably so during this busy time and numerous dogs/animals in need). My only option was to take her to the vet and get her the care she needed in order for her to survive.

I had to assume financial responsibility in order for her to get any care, which I would do over and over again. Unfortunately, she requires surgical repair on her back right broken leg (multiple fractures) and has multiple skin infections/mange and needs to be spayed. She is heartworm negative though! No microchip in place. According to the vet, she has a great prognosis. She is about just 3 years old! Just a baby.

Anyway, her veterinary care is far out of our means. I am reaching out to anyone who can help sponsor this sweet girl. We will either be keeping her following rehabilitation or fostering her until we can place her in a good home.

I have reached out to multiple rescues in hopes of sponsorship for sweet little Stella, however so far no luck. Stella's veterinary needs are estimating between $2,500.00 and $3,000.00 (including surgery, spaying, rehabilitation, hospital admittance, and all other veterinary needs). We would greatly appreciate any help -  financially, resources to reach out to, or just advice on next steps. Words cannot explain how grateful we would be for any help we can get - this is a second chance for Stella for a new and beautiful life.
