OH SYNAPSE! Katie had brain surgery

Donation protected
On May 26, 2017, our beautiful friend Katie suffered a traumatic brain injury.  A panic attack caused Katie to collapse to the ground.  After being transported to Fairview Southdale Hospital, doctors discovered a brain bleed in the left hemisphere of her temporal lobe.  Katie was transported to the University of Minnesota Medical Center where she underwent a 3-hour emergency surgery.  Doctors performed a temporal craniotomy and stopped the bleeding. A drain was placed in her head, as well as, medical mesh to ensure proper healing for her temporal bone. Doctors closed up the incision sight with 24 stitches.  She spent a total of four days in the ICU, while her home recovery lasted eight weeks..

Katie’s continued recovery and medical restrictions have kept her from returning to work for over two months.  She has only just now returned to work part-time, while having to give up her group home position due to medical restrictions. Needless to say, her bills have been piling up.  Besides the everyday costs of living, the medical bills have arrived.  She will continue to have medical appointments with her surgeon throughout the fall of 2017, as well as, evaluations with the concussion clinic.  Currently, her medical bills exceed $50,000.  Due to the part-time nature of her jobs, she does not have the support of health insurance.

We are hosting a fundraiser (details and final date to be determined) the second weekend of August. This fundraiser will have fun adult games, adult drinks, auctions, and a KEG. Please join us in celebrating, and supporting, our friend Katie! To raise money for her medical bills, we plan on charging each guest (if they choose to drink beer) for a cup, along with $1-$2 for fun games and activities, so make sure to bring some singles people! This GoFundMe account will stay open until the end of August.

Katie has been a positive light in the darkest of days for so many of us.  She has an amazing ability to find the bright side of every situation.  Katie has a big heart, and she gives to so many of us.  It’s our turn to be there for her!

Thank you for considering a donation to Katie’s medical expenses as she continues this journey of recovery.  She is so deserving, and I know she is very grateful!!
