Jones Family Support Fund

Dear Friends,

One of our Miler families is in need of our love and support. Frieda and Franklin Jones and their father, Lawrence, ran with the Milers in our early years. This Christmas season, they have had to deal with an unimaginable trauma. Lawrence's December 15th Facebook post tells it best.

"Please pray for my beloved daughter Frieda. She is undergoing heart surgery right now for advanced heart failure. She got a viral infection that went to her heart (viral myocarditis). She's 18 and first thought the shortness of breath and fatigue were related to her asthma. It is really serious. The only grace is that her dorm is three blocks from UPMC-Presbyterian, a top cardiac hospital. She walked to the emergency room last night, after her calculus recitation, of course. We're leaving for Pittsburgh now."

Frieda's condition worsened, as Lawrence notes, "People have asked about Frieda’s heart rate. It is still WAY too high. They can’t get it to stay down. They went in to do cardiac ablation but saw that it wouldn't work. This problem, coupled with the damage that her heart has sustained means that we listed her on the registry to receive a heart transplant. Wow."

The good news is a donor heart was found. Again, from Lawrence, "We just saw the surgeon, who said Frieda's heart transplant surgery went great! Everything was very straight forward. Her new heart is beating on its own and her lab work looks good. We are so relieved, and thankful for the medical team and all the support we've received."

It hasn't been smooth sailing. A recent post, " Frieda is bleeding into her left lung. They have to take back to the OR to stop the bleeding and clean out the blood in the lung. This is the 5th time she will be put under (general anaesthesia) in less than two weeks. Thank God I have such a strong daughter; please keep praying."

This is Lawrence's most recent post, "Frieda is doing much better this morning. She is out from the anaesthesia and breathing so well that they just took the breathing tube out. Her voice is a whisper. She is not bleeding like yesterday, so it looks like it was a problem with the neck catheter. Thank you for all the prayers- I was nervous last night."

Frieda is a graduate of SOTA and a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh. Her family is now at her side in Pittsburgh. As you can imagine, being far from home, the family is incurring unexpected expenses.

We want to show our love and care for our Miler family. Please consider making a financial donation to the Jones family. This will be a long recovery process, and it will be a while before the family is able to come home.
