Writing Mentorship at Entity Mag

Donation protected
I graduated from SCAD with a degree in writing in 2015. Since then, like so many of my peers, I've worked in industry jobs. I've made it work, but I want more for myself, and I'm finding it difficult to be taken seriously when applying for "career" work with my resume. It doesn't reflect what I actually have to offer. So much of my experience professionally is intangible.

I applied to the writing mentorship offered by Entity Mag (LA) about a month ago, kind of just for fun. I didn't think I'd be considered because of my aforementioned experience, not to mention not being currently enrolled in undergrad or fresh out of college.

Last week I got the email that my application stood out, and I'd been chosen to interview. At the end of my interview I was told I'd been chosen for a spot!

Here's the thing: the program costs 5k, not including housing. I told myself if I were offered the opportunity I would do everything in my power to come up with the money, no easy feat for me.

I'm currently working two part-time jobs in the restaurant industry, and selling art when I can on the side. It's hard enough to make ends meet most months, let alone save, not to mention save thousands of dollars before July. I said I'd try anything, so here I am, trying it.

If I am able to make it all work here are the dope things I'll be gaining during my mentorship:
-intensive courses in digital marketing & graphic design
-website building
-expertise in SEO
-Portfolio of work samples
-publishing on Entity's platforms (like freaking millions of readers yall)
-bad ass network of mentors

other activities included:
-flying lessons (wtf but for real, like i'll fly a plane)
-museum tours/theater/art exhibits/cooking classes
-boxing/krav maga training

From what I understand after speaking with my interviewer, it's really a chance for people looking to make a career change, really throw themselves into what they're passionate about. I've spent years figuring out what I don't want, and now I feel ready to give everything I have to what I do want.

The amount I've chosen is to cover tuition ($5,000) and the rest is to help offset bills I'll have to pay while I'm gone and not at work, as well as for a living arrangement while I'm there. It's a long shot that I'll get this money together, but I've got to try. If you'd like to help, any amount would be amazing. You have my truest gratitude, regardless. Thank you for any support you have for me.
