About the Project
Community organizations along the Thai-Myanmar border play a crucial role in supporting their communities by providing life-saving services and by advocating for change. However, when it comes to communicating with the outside world and reporting back to donors, their voices are often left out because they haven't had a chance to develop the skills and confidence to write in English.
The Tea Leaf Center is leading a writing course from December 9-13 for community organizations along the Thailand-Myanmar border.
In an intensive week of class, participants learn how to write clearly and persuasively about what's happening in their communities.
In the past, participants have used their new skills to write about conflict and its impact on women in their ethnic minority communities, and to advocate for protection of the environment and human rights in Myanmar.
Due to a serious funding crisis for civil society and displaced populations on the Thai-Myanmar border, most organizations cannot spare any funds for staff development. Therefore, a larger proportion of participants than usual need scholarships to participate in the writing course.
That’s why we’re reaching out to you.
Give now and sponsor a young community worker to learn these crucial skills -
$20 covers one participant for one day
$100 covers one participant for the entire course
If we surpass our fundraising goal, we will use the remaining funds for similar activities in other locations in Thailand and Myanmar.
All donors over $20 will receive a thank you postcard from the Tea Leaf Center designed by a local artist
