Hurricane Relief for Colley and Catherine Swain

On September 1st, Hurricane Dorian hit the island of Abaco, where my family calls home. Grand Bahamas (Freeport) was also hit, which is where my Sister and Aunt live. My family, as well as my Aunt, have lost it all. All that remains for my parents is the four walls of the home I grew up in and helped build. Priceless items (family photos, etc.), as well as my mothers car were lost to the storm. Once the storm passed they walked through the streets to search for food and water. The island is unrecognizable. Even when they had nothing my mother took in other friends and family with what shelter they had left, while my father began to patch the large hole in the roof. Safety is a concern as looters were raiding those homes and businesses that were still standing to take what was left. With no way to communicate, it took them a week to get word to family that they were alive. We were all waiting anxiously to hear from them after seeing the videos and photos posted of Abaco after the hurricane. Thank goodness that they were able to survive this hurricane, many other Bahamaians were not so lucky - I lost my Great Aunt during the storm.

My parents have gone to stay with family on another island while they wait on word of when they can return. Many repairs on the house need to be done, as well as replacing clothing, purchasing food, etc.
