Hi friends and family,
For the past year, Kyle and I have been volunteers for a support program for foster families called Austin Angels https://www.austinangels.com (AA), and we're trying to raise money for the foster family we've built a relationship with this past year. We understand your time is precious, so please feel free to skip to the bottom section called "The Ask" to understand what we're raising money for. If you're curious, continue reading to get to know this family.
The Family
AA matched us with a couple named Angelica and Raymond, who selflessly took in 5 of their family member’s kids after she struggled to meet the demands of parenthood. Just to emphasize how selfless this was, Angelica and Raymond had finished raising their own 3 kids, now in their 20s, when 5 kids showed up in need of a new home. I can't include their names or photos for child protective reasons, but they are a bashful, polite, humble, and sweet bunch who love Build-a-Bear and the Nightmare Before Christmas—ages 8, 10, 13, 13, and 14. When we first met, their seriousness was well beyond their years from all they had been through, but there is noticeably more innocence and laughter with each time we meet. Above all else, it’s clear they are each other’s protectors—the older brothers encouraging the little ones to pick healthier foods when we go out to eat and stealing glances at each other to make sure they’re all within each other’s eyesight.
The Ask
Today was the first day Angelica asked me for financial help in the entire year we've known her. Raymond, her, and the kids were forced to made a sudden move when their landlord decided to sell the house. Since then, the kids have been trying to adjust to a new school, and Angelica tells me the first and only thing that's perked the kids up in weeks is joining a wrestling club called John's Gym Georgetown (www.righteouswrestlingclub.com). These clubs are expensive just to join--not to mention cost of equipment. With your help, I would love to give Angelica the opportunity to say yes to her kids. To give you context for the $5700 goal, here is a breakdown of costs -
- $300 per child/month - program is 6 months total(3 of the kids are wanting to join)
- $75 for equipment per child
Genuinely, we will be thankful for any and all donations, big or small--even just the time you took to read this post. Lots of love!
