Sadie’s Story –
This is Sadie; she was rescued from The Edmonton Humane Society at the age of three months. Sadie is now five years old and thoroughly enjoys fetching sticks, swimming and making friends with bunnies. In our journey together, Sadie has taught me patience, loyalty and the true definition of sass.
Sadie recently paid a visit to VCA Canada Guardian Veterinary Centre in Edmonton, I was informed that she completely tore her ACL and another ligament and requires immediate surgery if I wanted to improve her quality of life. The surgery Sadie requires is called Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy surgery. The purpose of the surgery is that it completely alters the dynamics of the knee. Once the bone is cut and rotated the tibial plateau, where the femur and the tibia communicate, no longer can slide backwards. The knee is immediately stabilized. By doing so, this eliminates the need for the ACL ligament entirely and returns stability to the joint immediately. Once the knee is stabilized, the dog will begin to use the limb again. Unfortunately, these surgeries are quite costly and I will be looking at paying $4400-5200 for the procedure to be done. With that being said, I would be incredibly grateful for any donations that will contribute to improving Sadie’s quality of life. Should I raise more than the goal, I will donate the money to The Edmonton Humane Society.
