Rally for Rachel!
On Saturday, March 11th, 2023 our worlds came to a halt as we all learned that our dearly loved Rachel had taken sick. While there were many unknowns, later we found out that Rachel had suffered a brain bleed, resulting in a major, life-changing stroke.
With paralysis to the right side of her body, loss of speech and the ability to eat, Rachel remains in the hospital as she heals and awaits a transfer to the Miller Centre for Rehabilitation.
Since receiving her gastrostomy tube ( internal feeding tube via her stomach), we’ve seen some improvements in Rachel’s recovery. While there are many positive signs, Rachel still suffers from severe pain, emotional struggles and physical challenges.
Since moving from the ICU on March 14th, Rachel has made progress with physiotherapy, nutrition, speech therapy and her overall communication. While these are all positive indications of recovery, her Neurologist and Medical Team agree that Rachel has a long road of recovery ahead of her.
As many of you know, Rachel Hynes is loved everywhere she goes; whether it’s with her fish plant family (where she’s worked most of her life), her large circle of friends who she adores, her cabin buddies or her tight-knit family who are Rachel’s world; she was the glue that held them all together, and with our love and support, and the generosity of people like you, she’ll get back to being the glue again.
Rachel is a salt-of-the-earth kind of woman; hardworking, loving, outgoing and full of fun. She loves reading, knitting, and enjoying the great outdoors, but most of all, she loves her family, Roddy, Ashley (Shawn, Nic & Jacob), Brandon and friends.
As you can imagine, suffering a debilitating stroke has many effects, aside from Rachel’s physical struggles, now she and her family face the strain of a loss of income and financial burden. From travelling to St. John’s to be with Rachel, monthly bills, and unknown costs of rehabilitation and therapy, to dealing with any future changes that may need to be made, so we can get our Rachel back home, we’re calling on you for help.
As Rachel’s family and friends, we ask all who know and love Rachel, to help her get back home and receive the care she needs. We thank you in advance for your donation and ask you to keep rooting for our “Ferryland Dodger”!

Sincerely,
Rachel’s Dodgers
