Joe needs your help. On January 5, 2018, he thought he had the flu but we went to the ER the following morning because he could hardly breathe. The ER immediately put him on oxygen and after several tests Joe was admitted to the ICU. He was diagnosed with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. He was then put on a breathing tube, dialysis and was heavily sedated for 2-1/2 weeks.
Eventually they took him off the ventilator and moved him out of ICU. He then was moved to the surgical floor and the dialysis was stopped. He is now on the medical floor.
Joe does not have any insurance.
Now they are talking about rehabilitation. Joe cannot walk, not even with a walker, to the bathroom or anywhere. His muscles are very weak. At this point there is no way he can come home. I am unable to lift him out of the car and carry him inside, or lift him and take him to the bathroom. I was told to rent a hospital bed, a hoyer lift, a wheel chair, a walker and have physical therapists come to our apartment (all at our expense).
They told me to get him Physical Therapy, ideally at an onsite rehab home. The cost is over $216 a day + therapy or the alternative, I can take him home. I would have to hire a CNA or an Aide to stay with him after I go back to work. He cannot be alone.
He desperately needs physical therapy, follow up doctor's appointments, medication and a CNA. These expenses are what I need help with. I can't afford any of it as I am now the bread winner and living pay check to pay check.
