Staying Alive

The Problem
In northern Wyoming, desert stretches for miles, covered with gullies and greasewood. Some people might call it stark and desolate. To me, it represents life. Here, I can breathe. I can eat.

This is huge for me, because that is usually very difficult. My sister and I have become incredibly sensitive to pollens, foods and certain ingredients in bug sprays and weed killers. Allergists have told us that due to an overexposure to allergens, we are reacting allergically to things we are not actually allergic to.

Anything can trigger a reaction. Migraines and hives are common, along with more life-threatening reactions. Due to airborne allergens, breathing is often difficult enough that we feel we may pass out. We are sensitive to so many different foods, that we have difficulty finding enough food that we can eat to stay upright. We also react to medications. This means that allergists and other doctors cannot manage our reactions at all, either to help us get through daily life, or to manage the effects of a treatment they’ve tried. They’ve told us that they really cannot treat us until after we get away from the underlying allergens.

This past year, our reactions have become much more dangerous and include far more triggers. We are one bad reaction away from death. Visiting Wyoming, we are able to breathe. We are away from the farmland where they grow and spray the fields, and away from cities where they spray for bugs and weeds. Life returns. If we could move to Wyoming, we might be able to live almost normal lives, and finally get treatment. If we can’t…we might not make it another year.

The Solution
We need to move. In order to make that happen, we are both working multiple jobs. We spend our spare time creating digital art and teacher resources to sell online. Everything we earn goes toward paying off land and saving for a house. However, we are running out of time.

This GoFundMe page is for building a home on our land. This would be a post-frame house, which is the cheapest option to fulfill our requirements. We also need a generator, as electricity will have to wait until we can afford it. We would simply move into a rental out there, but unfortunately there are too many allergy triggers in a rental for us as well, such as possibility of mold from poor maintenance, or exposure to chemical cleaners used by the landlord or previous tenants.

How You Can Help
We need your help in several different ways. A contribution of any size is appreciated in helping us to get a home built. We could also use any additional ideas on clean power, clean heat, innovative housing or online jobs would also be welcomed. Further, we need any suggestions you may have of healthcare practitioners who may be able to help us treat this problem. Finally, please share this with anyone who might be able to help us, either financially or with information. Thank you so much!
