Hello everyone,
I have created this page and I am writing to you, because I need your help to make the world a bit better, and to do something that will give me the opportunity to impact the rest of my life.
I need your help to help raise $4,500 so I can participate in this amazing service program to help people in other parts of the world. The program is set up by an organization Global Leadership Adventures (GLA) . GLA is an organization that offers high school students a variety of different programs to broaden cultural awareness and make a difference in the world. If I fundraise enough money with your help, I can join this program to give back to the world by helping those who are less fortunate than us and also get a chance to experience a whole new culture.
I am still deciding which program I would like to do, but I have gotten it down to two programs.
1. Ghana, 2 weeks. During my time here I would be able to work with the children of Ghana by teaching them English. We also would be building and renovating school facilities, along with discussing the current issues the women and children are facing there and trying to help figure out solutions. I would also be able to be more fully immersed in the culture by learning a traditional African dance, cooking a traditional home-cooked meal, visiting the colorful markets, and learning more about the history in Ghana.
I have connected with many former students who went through this program, and they all say that the children really look up to the volunteers and are just so excited when you come. All of Ghana’s people are kind, welcoming, and excited when students come to help out, and everyone says they always want to help you, even though you came there to help them. Aside from this potentially humbling experience, the reason why I would love to go on this program is because, the culture just seems so amazing and vibrant, just so fun and filled with life.
2. Thailand, 2 weeks. As part of my future careers, one of the things I am thinking about is being a veterinarian or taking care of animals in zoos. In Thailand, I would get to spend a few days working with elephants! Here we would be able to feed, care, and protect for the elephants, and learn more ways on how we can help these majestic animals, because many innocent elephants are being killed every day for their tusks. Along with helping these beautiful creators, we get teach English to the children and create lesson plans for them, we even get to teach monks English. During our time in Thailand we would also be going to different temples and shadowing a local our age to learn more about the culture there.
I would love to do this program, because aside from helping me figure out my future career, I also love and care animals so much and I hate seeing them being hurt, I want to go to Thailand and help the elephants there and try to make the world a safer, more peaceful and loving place for all animals. Another reason I would love to do this program is because working with children I would get the chance to inspire young students and encourage them to follow their dreams. This program also lets me learn about a different culture I don’t know much of and to try new things offered there.
I am reaching out to you for your support, because the cost of the program and airfare is near $5,000. I have already started saving babysitting and other money I've earned, and have even entered essay contests so I can get a chance to win some money to go towards my funding. Also, I am planning on doing fund raising by having a garage sale with baked goods to bring in more money. I would love to be able to fundraise enough money to attend this life changing program… but without your help I won’t be able to go. I hope you can help me fundraise enough money so that I can go help the world, and in a way, you are going on this journey too, because you are going to be what helps me get there and that helps me to be able to help all these other people. The world is bigger than all of us, and I would like to understand that more. I always learn from my daily life and know that I can bring these cultural lessons back to our society to try to help change our world and broaden people's perspectives--hopefully.
I work very hard in everything I do, just ask anyone who knows me, and I would like the chance to go give myself to do something amazing for others. It wasn’t easy for me to write this and ask you for money because I don’t want you to have to feel obligated. But I was encouraged to do this as I know people sometimes want to give to one another and just don’t know how, so I am learning that I am giving that a chance too. Can you help support me?

A comforting note: GLA has been around for 14 years and thousands of students have safely participated. I will be going with another friend of mine and the organization is very structured connecting us with other students for the trip.
