Wotten Waven Hurricane Maria Relief

The photo above was one of the hot springs in the beautiful village of Wotten Waven in the Commonwealth of Dominica – an absolute place of paradise.

On Monday 18th September, Hurricane Maria hit Dominica directly as a category 5 hurricane with winds of 160 miles per hour. The entire island has been devastated with 90% of homes losing their roofs or being totally smashed to pieces.

There is no power, no water and food supplies are diminishing. The people on the island have lost almost everything. Crops, trees and roads have gone and thus the bedrock of our economy - agriculture and eco-tourism – is in tatters.

It will take many years to recover. We need help and tons of it.

While  emergency aid is filtering to help and is desperately needed, this campaign is focusing on the longer term rebuilding of the small village of Wotten Waven so that the residents there will get a chance to receive exactly what they need to rebuild their homes and their lives.

I am a resident of Wotten Waven who happened to be on vacation when this disaster struck and since I will no longer be able to return home as planned, I am determined to help the people and community I love.

The plan is to distribute these funds equitably to needed restoration projects within the community. So much has been lost and it's a long road ahead but together we can do this.
Wotten Waven is filled with kind, caring and hardworking people that have now lost everything they owned and have no immediate way to build back their livelihoods. Please support them to rebuild.

For the purposes of creating this page I had to put my name to the campaign but this is not a fund for ME it is a fund for all of US - we are in this together.

I am collaborating with Alan and Prisca Gamble who have a home in Wotten Waven but currently reside in the United States.

Once communication is fully restored we will be engaging the local businesses such as Ti Kwen Glo Cho, Screws Spa, Tia's Bamboo Cottages, Le Petit Paradis, Brendas, Quantum Leap, Sweet Teas,  the Wotten Waven Primary School and community leaders to get their input into our process and find a way to make this the most effective way to get supplies to those in need.
