Hurricane Maria Employee Testimonials:

Blanca Sanchez

Blanca has been with WN for over 11 years.  She is married and mother of a young lady who is studying at the university.

They live in Gurabo. The eye of the hurricane directly hit this town.  Her house was completely flooded. She had gasoline tanks for her generator that turned over and the gasoline and water were all over her house. She spent three days taking water out of her house.  All of her possession touching the floor were lost. The gate to her house collapsed which affects their security.

All her security cyclonfence around her house was blown away somewhere.

Her “In laws” lost their house in the country side of the town of Arroyo. Her in laws are a couple that are in their mid 70’s and has been married for over 50 years.

The force of the hurricane winds separated their roof completely from the house (cement walls but wooden roof) and the water damaged everything inside, nothing was salvageable (furniture, clothes, photographic memories, all was lost). With a couple of wet clothes they could gather, they are living in a tiny space with a family member.  They are desperate to find a way to put a roof over their house and obtain at least basic furniture to return to their home.  They lost all their important documents

Christine Vazquez

Christine has been with WN for over five years.  She is a young mother of a 10 year old boy and now she is 5 months pregnant.  Lives an apartment in the 10th floor of a building in Bayamon.

During Hurricane Maria, a three part window from her balcony was blown away (top two parts) by the wind and the bottom part was broken.  This cause her apartment to flood and suffered extensive water damage throughout the house. As a result, all the electrical system in the was destroyed

She is still trying to clean up and salvage what is left.

In addition her car was damaged by debris that flew by, cracking the windshield and scratching and damaging the body of her car.

Javier Santos

Javier has been with WN for over three years.  He is a young family man, married and father of three kids.  They live in a well build concrete house in a San Juan-Hillside Community.

Their life changed drastically after Hurricane Maria. The winds and rain, forced their way in, which caused his house to be flooded with more than one (1) foot of water.  Javier held a door for two hours in order to avoid more water entering the home. All of his furniture is ruined due to water damage, including the kitchen cabinets, living and dining room sets, clothes, shoes, towels, bedsheets, bedroom furniture and all the interior and exterior doors of his house. All the appliances were affected, but he is waiting for the power to return to see if any of them is salvageable.  The family pictures, which recounted all their history (weeding, birth, birthdays, anniversaries, members of the family who are no longer with them…) where lost or suffered irreversible damage. Personal and important documents also were lost or suffered damaged. The roof of his house cracked, and the gate to his house was torn out. His family car was flooded resulting in a total loss.

After battling and trying to withstand the hurricane, they had to surrender to the force of nature and Javier and his family were forced to evacuate their home, walking in over four (4) feet of water to seek refuge in a neighbor’s two story house.
