About World AIDS Day
Despite significant progress in awareness, treatment, and infection prevention, HIV/AIDS remains a major public health challenge in the world today. As of 2019, approximately 38 million were living with HIV/AIDS worldwide, and it is estimated that 19 percent of those people were not aware of their HIV status. Increased access to testing, treatment, and awareness programs is essential to curbing this global public health challenge and ending the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS. In observance of World AIDS Day 2020, US and UK Pride@Capco are teaming up to raise money for organizations working to address HIV/AIDS in our communities: Capco UK will be fundraising for Positive East, and Capco US will be fundraising for the Black AIDS Institute. We hope you will join us in this transatlantic fundraising challenge to show solidarity with those impacted by HIV/AIDS.
The Black AIDS Institute
At Capco, we stand in solidarity with those in our communities facing HIV/AIDS complications, an issue that remains a pertinent and intersectional topic for Pride@Capco and Black@Capco. The Black AIDS Institute (BAI) is a community-oriented “think and do” tank at the forefront of HIV/AIDS education and outreach. BAI sources capacity building, mobilization, policy, and advocacy efforts from Black leaders and communities across the country. It also provides high-quality, high-touch HIV services to Black people through grassroots community organization. As a uniquely and unapologetically perspective dedicated to ending HIV in Black America, BAI hosts small group discussions, podcasts, mentorship programs, and medical traineeships. The foundation also affords clinical services to those individuals in need and has been leading the fight against HIV/AIDS since 1999.
