Fundraiser to Help Kolkata Fight COVID-19

The recent COVID-19 pandemic has caused major problems on a global scale. All countries have been impacted at various levels and people are facing different types of day to day challenges.
Kolkata is my hometown in India and is no exception. Growing up, I’d visit my relatives fairly often. While speaking with family and friends in Kolkata recently, I came to understand the challenges people are facing are the same, or even worse in some cases, as people here in the United States - many have lost jobs, don’t have access to food, are locked into their homes, and deal with hardships that make leading a regular life difficult.
To help relieve the stress of the problem, I have reached out to an organization, Punjabee Bradree (via my family in Kolkata) that has been supplying food to over 500 people daily. These are people who have been unable to work, meet their daily needs or kids that don't have access to food because of the lockdown. Additionally, I’ve contacted Mr Anuj Sharma, the Commissioner of Kolkata Police through my family to find out that police officers are working overtime and putting their lives at risk with limited resources. All so they can help ensure that people follow quarantine guidelines, patients are transported to hospitals, and food is delivered to those affected while maintaining law and order in the city.
I’m aiming to raise money through this fundraiser to help alleviate the situation in India in my own little way. A small dollar amount here may not seem like much, but will go a long way in helping the people of Kolkata. The money raised will be divided evenly between the Kolkata Police Department to help provide for the police force, and Punjabee Bradree to help provide meals on a larger scale.
I don’t expect to solve the problem entirely, but I want to do what I can to help my home in India be able to rebound from this pandemic. I’ve put together this GoFundMe to help aid the families of these workers and patients for the upcoming months and after.
