The love I share with dogs comes from my childhood. I didn't have the best start in life- I was in foster care as a teen and beat the odds. I went to college, got a degree and made a life for myself. My name is Courtney Cecere and I am the founder of Wizard of Paws Dog Rescue (WOP). This rescue’s purpose is to provide dogs a place of rehabilitation where, much like myself, was brought into a home and was showed love. Now it’s my turn to give back to another vulnerable population- abused, neglected, and abandoned dogs.
I am a lifelong animal enthusiast who has been rescuing and fostering dogs for 15 years. I have decided to dedicate my entire life to making an impact on the number of abused, neglected, abandoned and euthanized dogs. Wizard of Paws would like to focus the rescue efforts on senior dogs and pit bulls; however, we will rescue and care for any breed that we see is in need. Our focus has been made for pit bulls and senior dogs because of their vulnerability that they have. Seniors are first in line to be put down to make more space for incoming dogs and pit bulls have a notoriety in society that is based off a false perception. I want to change this by showing the pit bulls the love they deserve.
Wizard of Paws Dog Rescue is currently being assembled from the ground up. An amazing location of 2.5 acres in Lancaster has been purchased and our non-profit status is almost complete! I am asking for donations of any amount to jump-start WOP. The newly purchased land does not have electricity, sewage, or water but it has so much potential to save hundreds of dogs. The donations will go directly to cover the costs of installing a gate around the whole property so the dogs can have a safe space, clearing and leveling the land, purchasing a portable office trailer, general dog items (dog food, kennels, medical supplies), and getting electricity for the land water / sewage. As you can see, there’s lots of assistance that is needed but this is a cause I believe strongly in and with your help, I know it will happen!
The movie, Wizard of Oz, has been a staple in my growing up. As life happened around me being in foster care, nothing was stable. Watching this iconic movie was my safe haven and it was something I knew was always there. The importance of this movie made choosing a name for this rescue be effortless; the same way Dorothy followed the yellow brick road to find her way home is the very essence of Wizard of Paws.
