Wood Family & Driftwood Inn Relief

Hurricane Michael has wrought unimaginable devastation on the Gulf Coast and Mexico Beach, Florida was hit hardest. This GoFundMe Account is set up to assist the Wood family, as they have lost their homes and their business, the Driftwood Inn, to the hurricane’s destruction.  

The Driftwood Inn was no ordinary place. It was an iconic, thoughtfully designed hotel full of charming touches and original art. Over the years, thousands have sought it out for relaxation and celebration. Most importantly, it was the epicenter of the Wood family’s life, their heart’s home.

Thankfully, the Wood family, along with one-month-old baby Maverick, evacuated before the storm hit and are physically safe. But their lives are forever changed. The Driftwood Inn, Peggy’s apartment, and Bart’s home are all decimated and will need to be completely rebuilt. Shawna’s home has also been severely damaged.

If you are lucky enough to know the Woods, you know that they are the most loving and generous people on earth. They never turn away from loved ones in need and their kindness knows no bounds. But this storm has left them broken-hearted and uncertain of the future. As Shawna told a friend, “All we know is Mexico Beach.”

Please consider assisting the Wood family as they face the daunting task – a task no-one should have to face – of rebuilding their homes, their Inn, and their lives. Restoring the Driftwood would be the start of re-building Mexico Beach. Construction workers will have a place to stay as they work to restore other homes and businesses. Tourism, the lifeblood of Mexico Beach, will be revived.

The Driftwood was my home every summer during my childhood and teenage years, and as an adult it has been my happy place, and the place I feel most at peace (I’m sure many of you can relate!).
