Wonky the Greyhound-Hospital Fund

Hi, my name is Ken and I am on the board of Rocky Mountain Greyhound Adoption. I want to introduce you to Wonky. Wonky came to RMGA in late July so we could find him his forever home. As with all greyhounds we adopt, he had to be neutered prior to being able to be adopted. He went in for the surgery on August 4th but had a condition called cryptorchid. While this is not normally an issue, Wonky’s turned out to be more entangled and therefore he had complications in his recovery.

On that Sunday, August 6th, Wonky was not feeling well so we took him to the emergency vet and started him on antibiotics and he spent the night at the hospital. Over the next two weeks, he would feel better and then feel worse. He kept doing this yo-yo until finally, on August 19, he could not get up on his own. That night we took him to Colorado State University vet hospital and had emergency surgery, to drain a very large abscess and insert a drainage tube in his abdomen. Three days later he had to undergo surgery again to drain another abscess, have another drainage tube inserted (so he has 2 drainage tubes), and install a feeding tube.

As you can imagine, this all gets very expensive, even at a teaching hospital. Rocky Mountain Greyhound Adoption is a small 501c3 non-profit and therefore runs on a very small budget, with a lot of assistance from volunteers. All the money we raise goes to food (when we cannot get donations of food) and care, spay/neuter, and shots for our adoptable greyhounds. Wonky’s care and surgeries have run us over $11,000 in vet bills and any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
