On January 5, 2017, Kelly was diagnosed with Stage 3, grade 3, aggressive invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast. Or more simply known as Stage 3 breast cancer.
Kelly's fight against cancer has inspired the nickname Wonder Woman from a few of her friends. For those that don't know Kelly, she is extremely hard-working, lives her life open-handedly, and is always there when you need her. She is a true blessing to everyone who knows her. Kelly is not married but she has received a tremendous outpouring of love and support from all of her friends & family, which has helped her to remain incredibly positive throughout this entire process.
So far, we're pleased to report the chemo is working and her tumors have shrunk to almost nothing! As of today (June 17), she only has 3 treatments to go and she is so excited to RING THAT BELL!!!
But finishing chemo is just the first step in her long road to recovery. She will have a double mastectomy in August and after a short healing period she will undergo 6 1/2 weeks of radiation (5 days a week). Lastly, she will have reconstructive surgery several months following the completion of her radiation treatment.
Kelly's career has revolved around working very closely with the public. Due to the aggressive nature of her cancer, the treatment has been very aggressive as well. Her treatment compromises her immune system, so she has not been able to work and won't be able to go back to work for quite a while.
We are raising money for Kelly to help cover her cost of living expenses for the next 5 to 6 months. Up until now, she has received support from a few local charities, thanks to her social worker at the hospital, and has also been making ends meet with her credit card. In addition to covering future living expenses, we would like to help relieve some of her debt and give back to those charities as much as possible.
