Women Sailing for Microplastics Research

I am fortunate enough to have been selected to join Leg 17 of eXXpedition Round the World and will be sailing from Mauritius to Cape Town in October 2020.
eXXpedition Round the World is an all-female sailing voyage and research mission. Over 38,000 nautical miles and 30 voyage legs starting and ending in the United Kingdom. Onboard S.V. TravelEdge, eXXpedition crews will explore plastics and toxics in our ocean, via four of the five oceanic gyres and the Arctic.
Plastics are entering our waterways and oceans at an alarming rate. Because they take so long to break down and disappear, they are persistent in both the environment and the food chain. We are still learning what impact plastic particles and fragments, known as microplastics, can have on the food chain, the ecosystems, and our own health.
Connected by a passion to protect our shared ocean, it will enable 300 women to go to sea as hands-on crew and experience first hand the challenges we face from single-use plastics while contributing to cutting-edge scientific research and solutions-based thinking.
Participation in eXXpedition Round the World involved a competitive application and interview process and is entirely self-funded. The participation cost to be part of the research and voyage funds the maintenance and running costs of the ship and the research equipment.
I'm hoping to fundraise as much as I can to enable me to be part of this incredible experience and contribution to marine plastics research. I really appreciate any amount that anyone can contribute to my participation in the research.
