Help Sierra Leonean Women learn Vocational Skills
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Christy and I am helping to fundraise for a project called "Skills for Freedom and Violence Prevention" based in Sierra Leone.
The project seeks to teach women and girls in Sierra Leone, many who are survivors of domestic violence, vocational skills to assist them in becoming financially independent.
9 out of 10 women and girls experience domestic violence in Sierra Leone. Oftentimes these women do not leave because they are financially dependent on their abuser. Many of these women and girls have children, making the decision to leave that much more difficult.
"Skills for Freedom and Violence Prevention" will teach women and girls skills such as tailoring, traditional Gara tie dying, Ankara design making and culinary arts in order to start their own businesses and gain financial independence.
Funds raised will go towards start up kits for the women's chosen vocation. For example, sewing machines will be given to those who pursue tailoring. Funds will also be used to go towards the cost to pay professionals to provide the trainings, the materials needed to conduct the trainings and the cost of renting a space to hold the trainings in.
Please help me make financial independence for these women a reality.
