<div>Somos el <strong>Hogar Halomí. </strong> Ofrecemos una opción de vida para gatos portadores de virales felinas, desde hace cinco años. Estamos ubicados en Cómbita, municipio del departamento de Boyacá, en Colombia. Esta es nuestra historia: en un mundo cargado de dureza, competitividad, eficiencia y violencia, en el que difícilmente hay cabida para la fragilidad, la ternura y la diferencia, porque se ignora, se evade o se destruye, acoger y abrazar la vulnerabilidad de estos seres maravillosos que tienen el derecho de vivir y que merecen hacerlo, se fue volviendo nuestro norte. Este sueño se fue construyendo paso a paso, inicialmente en una habitación de nuestro apartamento, a través de pequeñas luchas, intuiciones y aprendizajes; y con el paso del tiempo se consolidó como una gran apuesta que nos llena de sentido; que nos conecta del todo con la vida y con lo más profundo en lo que creemos.

<div> Así, lentamente, comenzamos a construir y habitar el espacio actual del Hogar Halomí, determinar los protocolos y dotar las instalaciones, a medida que llegaban ellos, uno a uno, con sus miradas brillantes, sus corazones palpitantes, sus ganas de vivir, de dar y recibir amor. Entre abrazos, caricias, antibióticos, exodoncias, vendajes, retrovirales, maullidos, travesuras, risas y lágrimas, se ha tejido esta historia de amor sin condiciones.

<div> Como sabes estos animales, además de estar estigmatizados, sufren muchos padecimientos al vivir en la calle y no contar con la alimentación, los cuidados y el afecto de una familia. Sin estos, las posibilidades de desarrollar las virales u otras enfermedades son muy altas, se incrementa además el índice de contagios en la población de gatos ferales, y casi siempre mueren solos y en condiciones muy dolorosas. Además, por ser considerados un problema de salud pública (así no hayan desarrollado la enfermedad que portan), en la mayoría de los casos son sacrificados.

<div> En este contexto nace el <strong>Hogar Halomí</strong>, para ofrecer un espacio digno, seguro, enriquecido y amoroso para ellos. Hoy somos ya un referente para fundaciones y particulares que desean que alberguemos gatos con estas condiciones, y hemos logrado iniciar una labor pedagógica con la comunidad rural y con los niños, en torno al bienestar y la protección animal en general, y a la comprensión de las virales en particular, a la que queremos dar continuidad como uno de nuestros ejes fundamentales.

<div> Quienes tenemos el privilegio de cuidar gatos positivos, sabemos de su vitalidad, su valentía, su fuerza y las infinitas posibilidades que tienen de vivir saludablemente. Así mismo conocemos el valor que se requiere para acompañarlos a un buen morir cuando han desarrollado la enfermedad y se han agotado las opciones. Durante este tiempo algunos nos han dejado, otros encontraron una familia que los ha acogido, y otros más nos animan día a día, con su mirada, su ronroneo y sus maullidos, a continuar esforzándonos. Sabemos que seguirán llegando muchos más, porque son muy pocas las organizaciones que ofrecen alternativas para ellos en este país.

<div>We are the <strong>Halomí Home</strong>. For the five years, we have offered a life option for cats carrying feline viral diseases. We are located in Cómbita, a municipality in the Department of Boyacá, Colombia. This is our story: in a world full of toughness, competitiveness, efficiency, and violence, in which there is hardly any room for fragility, tenderness, and difference because the vulnerability of others is ignored, evaded, or destroyed, we set our north to welcome and embrace these beautiful beings who have the right to live and who deserve to do so. This dream was built step by step in a room in our apartment through small struggles, intuitions, and learnings. Over time, it was consolidated as a great bet that fills us with meaning, ultimately connecting us with life and our deepest beliefs.

<div>Thus, we slowly began to build and inhabit the current space of the Hogar Halomí, determine the protocols and equip the facilities as they arrived, one by one, with their bright looks, beating hearts, and desire to live, to give, and receive love. This love story has been woven without conditions, between hugs, caresses, antibiotics, extractions, bandages, retroviral, meows, mischief, laughter, and tears.

<div>As you know, these animals, in addition to being stigmatized, suffer many ailments by living on the street and not having the food, care, and affection of a family. Without this, the chances of developing viral or other diseases are very high. Unfortunately, the rate of infections also increases in the feral cat population, and they almost always die alone and in brutal conditions. Furthermore, because they are considered a public health problem (even if they have not developed the disease they are carrying), in most cases, they are euthanized.

<div>In this context, <strong>Hogar Halomí</strong> was born to offer a dignified, safe, enriched, and loving space. Today we are already a benchmark for foundations and individuals who want us to shelter cats with these conditions. In addition, we have initiated pedagogical work regarding animal welfare and protection in general and understanding viral diseases in particular with the rural community and with children. We want to give continuity to this work as one of our fundamental axes.

<div>Those of us who have the privilege of caring for positive cats know their vitality, courage, strength, and infinite possibilities to live healthily. Likewise, we see the courage required to accompany them to a good death when they have developed the disease and the options have been exhausted. Some have left us during this time, others found a family that has welcomed them, and still, others encourage us daily, with their gaze, purr, and meows, to continue striving. We know that many more will continue to arrive because very few organizations offer alternatives for them in this country.
