Pazósfera is a Non-Governmental Organization based in Bogota, Colombia that works towards peace-building. It supports and participates in processes that contribute the construction of peace in local contexts.
Since 2015, with the support of the Consul for Human and Educational Rights, Pazósfera has been developing a project in Bogotá’s prison ‘La Picota’, where a group of inmates, assist in workshops to encourage their creative expression. These workshops use a horizontal and reflective methodology that is based on peace education, a fundamental pillar for social reintegration and rehabilitation, using art as principal tool: music and literature.
From these workshops emerged, 'Cumbia Canera', a group of traditional Colombian folk music that focuses mainly on playing Colombian Cumbia: an original rhythm from the northern region of the country, which mixes traditional indigenous sounds with African drums.
To many inmates, music is synonymous with freedom, sensitivity and change. The instruments that are currently being used are worn or in bad condition, some of them are made handcrafted by the interns. The money collected through this campaign will fund the purchase of new instruments which will remain in the prison.
Your support will keep 'Cumbia Canera' alive and improve the conditions in which the project takes place, as new instruments will allow inmates to run the project themselves and deliver it to new members who want to learn and use music as a means to change their lives.
If we reach the goal, there will be enough funding to also record from inside the penitentiary a disc with 4 songs written and performed by the inmates. This will facilitate the distribution of the art created within the prison in local places where traditional Colombian music still remains of high importance and influence.

Pazósfera es una organización no gubernamental ubicada en Bogotá-Colombia que apoya y participa en procesos que contribuyen a la construcción de una cultura de paz.
Desde 2015, con el apoyo del Cónsul de Derechos Humanos y Educativos, Pazósfera ha desarrollado un proyecto en la prisión Bogotana "La Picota", donde un grupo de internos asisten a talleres para promover su expresión creativa a través de metodologías horizontales y reflexivas, basadas en la educación para la paz como un pilar fundamental para la reintegración social y rehabilitación, utilizando el arte como herramienta principal: música y literatura.
De estos talleres surgió 'Cumbia Canera'. Una agrupación de música folclórica tradicional colombiana que se enfoca principalmente en tocar Cumbia Colombiana: un ritmo originario dela región norte del país, que mezcla sonidos tradicionales indígenas con tambores africanos.
Para muchos internos, la música es sinónimo de libertad, sensibilidad y cambio. Los instrumentos que utilizamos actualmente están desgastados o en mal estado, algunos de ellos son improvisados y hechos a mano por los internos. El dinero recaudado a través de esta campaña estará destinado a comprar nuevos instrumentos.
Tu ayuda mantendrá a 'Cumbia Canera' viva y mejorará las condiciones en las que se lleva a cabo el proyecto, en tanto nuevos instrumentos permitirán que los internos coordinen el proyecto y lo dirijan a nuevos integrantes que quieran aprender y utilizar la música como medio para cambiar su vida.
Si logramos recolectar el objetivo, será la ayuda suficiente para también realizar desde adentro del establecimiento penitenciario, la grabación de un disco con 4 sencillos de la autoría de los internos. Esto, con el fin de distribuir el arte creado por los internos en lugares locales donde la música tradicional colombiana aún sigue siendo de alta importancia e influencia.

Las gaitas desestabilizan los cimientos de los muros con vibraciones en el aire, ondas supersónicas como supernovas atraviesan pechos y mentes retumbando en el cuero de los tambores que también es el cuero desgastado de nuestra piel, en donde se marcan figuras rupestres de lo que fuimos y lo que somos. La cumbia revive espíritus de antepasados condenados al olvido, nos cuentan que fueron seres que volvieron a ser agua y aire, polvo y fuego, y que volvieron a ser libres una vez volvieron a ser tierra."
