SIHS Band Medical Fund

On the 3rd of October, 2015, we set out for the first competition of the season. Everyone was excited and buzzing around ready to compete, but when we arrived at the competition; tragedy struck our band. An awning at the school collapsed on a group of students underneath. 18 band members were sent to the hospital for various injuries. A couple hours after this happened, we were informed that a lot of our friends had more serious injuries than we had previously thought: one girl had her leg amputated, multiple people had broken feet, legs and pelvises, and a lot of severe head injuries. As one of the lead drum majors of the band, I am asking you to donate to our fund to help pay for the families that are having to stay with their children to cover food, gas, hotel rooms and any salaries lost for taking any unpaid personal days off from work. Some of the funds will also go to a potential prosthetic for our dear friend, and any changes that may have to be made to her home to help her transition. The rest of the money will be put into a fund for a new band trailer dedicated to those hospitalized on October 3rd, 2015.

This band means the world to me. These kids are my life. They make me smile, laugh, cry, beam with joy and pride... What happened was so unexpected and unfair; I want to reverse time to stop it. I can't snap into the reality of what happened; that some of the greatest people in my life are hurt, and I can't change it. But, even though we may have been battered up, we are all alive, and I'm thankful for that. This is my Viking band and I love them so much... Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers tonight, we sure do need it. They fill my life with purpose and I am honored to call them my chosen family ❤
