Wixarika (Huichol) Fundraiser for Basic Supplies

Donation protected
Dear international community, friends of the Wixarika people.

We hope you are safe and well with your families and loved ones in these times of challenges, change and reflection. As you may already know,  our brothers and sisters from the communities of the Wixarika Nation (Huichol) are going through difficult times due to the pandemic lockdown. The traditional authorities of the La Laguna and Werik communities, as well as various individuals and families from these communities, have sent letters asking for help in the form of basic supplies and if possible financial support, so they can continue to eat and care for their families in this time, as well as fulfill their traditional commitments and complete the task of making their sacred offerings. Due to the lockdown, it is impossible for them to leave their communities to sell their art and they cannot carry out paid work activities to cover their basic needs. The Sierra Madre area where they live is a semi-arid territory. It is still dry season and they are unable to sow and harvest. This means they have absolutely no ways to sustain themselves in this difficult time. If they are to continue to feed their families, and complete the commitment of making the offerings needed to sustain the cycle of life, they need our help.

We are making this fundraising campaign at their request to support them immediately until the lockdown ends. We will gather the funds, make the shopping of basic food and supplies and deliver it personally to the communities. We hope to gather sufficient to help all families, but if not we will be giving priority to those who need it the most: the elderly, the single mothers, the orphans, and the sick and disabled. A recent shopping trip for the very basic supplies- corn, beans, salt etc- for one community of 178 persons cost approximate 8000 euros. We are hoping with our target to help two communities. We will also be supporting the traditional authorities and ceremonial groups 'jicareros' to fulfill their traditional commitments this season. They have done an amazing job in continuing with their ceremonies and pilgrimages despite the circumstances. We will support them to follow their tradition and pray for humanity, as they themselves write in the petition letter.

We are deeply grateful for the beautiful and rich Wixaritari nation, for their ancestral culture and traditions, and for all the healing and wisdom they provide for mankind. We are so grateful for the international community of people in sacred alliance with the sacred earth, for standing together through the storm. Thank you so much for wanting to help in this time, giving thanks for every single contribution, small or large, and looking forward to meet with you all again.

Pamparios!"

Pamparios (merci)
