Medical Procedure and Living Expenses

Hi my name is Nate. Through some unforeseeable events that have all occurred in a crazy short amount of time, I have found myself in a predicament in which I need some outside financial help. I have never had to resort to crowd sourcing before because I have always been able to work my way through, but these are extreme circumstances. I've spent the last month procrastinating about writing this because it’s a hard pill to swallow for me to have to resort to asking strangers and friends for financial assistance. I'll summarize the best I can.

Up until June of last year I had a studio apartment on top of the warehouse where I worked for 4 years. The last week of June, the owner decided to retire and sell. The new company was keeping us employed as part of the sale. The owner was going to help me find a new a place before he cleared out. We started working for the new company the 1st week of July. That same week, my boss had a severe medical emergency and nearly didn't pull through.

That set in motion his family coming down to clear out the warehouse in one week. Which left me no time to find a place. I was unprepared and had to move into my car. I was going to rough it a bit and use my 1st check to find a room or something. That did not goes as planned either.

I thought I was done with child support, but without any notice they garnished a big percentage of my check. It turns out the first four months they counted as not paid because I didn't use the approved app. So I have had every check garnished since July. Supposedly May is the last month.

At the same time this was going on I was having major trouble walking. Just woke up one day and could barely walk. I went to the ER and they just said it was inflamed and to rest it and sent me on my way. This also happened the 1st week of July.

Now fast forward to September, still in my car, still having a horrible time walking, and then the new company I'm working for told me I was being laid off in 2 weeks. I went online typed in forklift jobs and got an interview same week at CVS Distribution Warehouse. Timed perfectly. Left job on a Friday and started at CVS Monday. Of course checks were garnished from CVS as well. So I used a Gym membership, a storage building, and my car to establish a routine. Just had to hold out till April/May to hopefully get a place with a good friend who I wholeheartedly trust.

Now we get to Jan of this year. The pain in my hip has become unmanageable. CVS does have good health insurance, so I made an appointment with Sterling Ridge Ortho and turns out I have something called Vascular Necrosis of the right hip. Basically there is no blood supply to the bone so it dies. The only fix is a hip replacement. The damage is already done so they released me for work.

The pain is now excruciating and I have literally walked a 1/2 inch off my leg. They want to do the surgery May 1st. You have to work at CVS for a year to get medical leave. I might qualify for temporary disability but it won’t help me out of the hole I'm in. I have been homeless and in horrible pain for almost a year now and I'm at the home stretch. I'm so looking forward to living again instead of surviving.

For this to work, the timing has to work. In order for the surgery to happen. I need to have a place to live lined up. I need the finances to survive the initial 8 weeks recovery time, plus the next 3 weeks after to once again get my first full check from CVS. Ungarnished woo hoo. I need the money to cover 2 months’ rent with my friend including utilities, food, gas, car payment, car insurance, phone bill, medical insurance (since it won’t be taken out of my check), money for physical therapy, and the actual medical procedure. Will need to pay deductible and max out of pocket for the year.

I know times are hard out there. I know I'm almost through. I just have gone as far as I can alone. I need the community's help and it's time I tried to reach out and ask for it. Or just to share my story with anyone you know who might be able to help. All I got left to go on is faith.
