Urgent Aid while waiting for critical vision surgery.

I am a 61-year-old man who has diligently worked since the age of 18. My life's journey has been remarkable, fulfilling the expected roles: I earned a degree in Radio, TV, and Film Broadcasting, worked over 30 years in the entertainment industry, served a term in the US Army, and owned several businesses, including a banquet facility and a Caribbean restaurant. My pride was a full-scale production facility, featuring an audio studio, graphics department, and TV studio, serving the community and working with artists and churches for over 12 years.
This narrative illustrates my work ethic; I've never shied away from hard work nor relied on welfare. I've supported my family and navigated life's challenges successfully. Yet, now I face a formidable challenge.
Diagnosed with glaucoma 20 years ago, I've been under the VA Hospital's care, losing significant vision in both eyes due to glaucoma and now cataracts, more so in the right eye. My ability to drive and work has ceased, prompting this reluctant appeal. My wife, nearing retirement and working part-time, has increased her hours in light of my condition. I previously worked 7-day weeks, 10-12 hours daily.
My doctors indicate lens replacement surgery is possible by December, pending the resolution of inflammation in my right eye.
Meanwhile, the bills continue to accumulate, and the threat of homelessness is ever-present. Our grown children, who have their own families, have done as much as they can. I'm in the process of filing for SSDI but that can take 6 to 8 months just to get approved. Other relatives contribute as well, yet it's increasingly challenging for everyone.
We take pride in our independence, which makes this request particularly difficult. My wife has reservations about it. We have never faced a situation like this before. Yet, in desperate times, one must resort to desperate measures. We appreciate your understanding in advance. Blessings.
