WHO ARE THE WISE-ER DOLPHINS?
The Wise-er Dolphins are a team of 6th graders from Irvington Middle School in Westchester County, New York, participating in Destination Imagination (DI), a collaborative challenge-solving competition.
HOW CAN WE HELP?
The Wise-er Dolphins could greatly benefit from financial assistance to help cover the cost of traveling to and competing in the Destination Imagination Global Finals in Knoxville, Tennessee. DI in the Irvington school district is an extra curricular activity that is not entirely funded by the school. A hefty portion of the financial burden falls upon the families of the students participating. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated, and may alleviate this financial burden.
WHAT IS DESTINATION IMAGINATION?
Destination Imagination (DI) incorporates STEM (science, technology, engineering, math), the arts, and community outreach. Teams come together to compete in Instant Challenges (improvisational problem solving) and to present their Central Challenges. Central Challenges are theatrical presentations that the kids create entirely themselves, independent of adult influence.

WHY SUPPORT THE WISE-ER DOLPHINS?
Global Finals are like the Olympics of DI, and The Wise-er Dolphins worked hard for the chance to attend. We are so proud of this team of seven resourceful and creative kids! This is their second year together. As Middle Level Division students, they won first place at the regional competition and second place at the New York State competition. Their scores at the state level qualified them to advance to DI Global Finals (international level), taking place this May. Watch the video of their Central Challenge presentation, and you'll see for yourself how hard they worked. As you watch, keep in mind that these kids spent many months writing the script, making highly technical props, coding computer graphics, recording sound effects, and rehearsing. They woke up very early to practice Instant Challenges before school, and sacrificed their free time on weekends to work on their Central Challenge.
WHEN IS HELP NEEDED?
NOW. The Wise-er Dolphins could not count on advancing to the Global Finals until they first competed at the regional level, and then state level. The NY state competition was held on April 7, and it was not until the end of the day that they learned their scores qualified them for Global Finals. The Wise-er Dolphins plan on traveling to Tennessee mid MAY, which means families are scrambling to make arrangements within only a few weeks. As this is a competition that brings in teams from all over the world, you can imagine that flights and accommodations are in high demand right now. The families need to register the team and make travel arrangements as we speak! This is a very time sensitive campaign.
WHAT WILL DONATIONS HELP FUND?
Your contribution will help The Wise-er Dolphins cover expenses not paid in full by the school district. All of these expenses are first paid up front by the families. These expenses include the team registration fee, travel to Tennessee, shipping of their delicate and elaborate props to the competition, room and board for the team and their accompanying adults, and other incidentals relating to participation. I am setting our goal at $3000, but I expect the total expenses to exceed that, considering the team includes 7 members and each student is traveling with at least one parent.
