Winnie's Surgery

With only two weeks left in Boston, my sweet Winnie was unfortunately hit by a car this morning on our way to work. She escaped from her leash and ran out into rush-hour traffic. The tire of a truck grazed her side and sent her flying into the air.

I had never seen or heard my dog in so much pain.

She was stunned. I was heartbroken. 

Fortunately, a bystander came to our aid. A BU professor named Peter rushed to my side, asking if we needed a lift to the animal hospital. Relieved and beyond thankful for his intervention, I accepted. And we were off.

After an initial analysis from Winnie's vet, I was told that more testing needed to be done before we determined next steps. She called later that afternoon to inform me that Winnie had suffered severe fractures to both hips and her pelvis, and that she would need intensive surgery to repair them and restore mobility in her back legs. 

I plan to proceed with the surgery to give my sweet girl the best quality of life she can possibly have--but it's likely going to be between $7000 and $9000. 

If you know me, you know that Winnie is much more than a pet to me: she's my family (and the only family I have in Boston). And that means that I'll do everything within my power to make sure that she's safe, happy and healthy. 

But with that being said, I unfortunately can't foot a bill this large with the swipe of my credit card. So, Winnie and I are asking for donations to help make up for what we can't pay out of pocket.

If you can afford to give, please give what you can. Even if it's only a few bucks here and there. Every little bit helps, and I appreciate every cent that goes toward  getting my girl up on her feet again.
