Wings for Dalilah
Emily and Jeremy Hacek were so excited when they found out that Emily was pregnant again! Their 1 1/2 year old daughter Eleanor was going to be a BIG sister in March 2021!!!
Emily looked forward to her 19th week ultrasound to find out the sex of the baby and to hear the heartbeat. But on that scheduled day the mood went from excitement to overwhelming sadness very quickly. They were told their sweet baby girl has a rare condition called Trisomy 13 (genetic disorder). Delilah has two holes in her heart, two 100% blocked ventricles along with other life-threatening medical conditions. They were asked if they wanted to “terminate” the pregnancy as such babies generally do not survive. They die either in utero or shortly thereafter. Emily and Jeremy chose not to terminate their pregnancy. Their OBGYN immediately told them that she would not deliver the baby. The doctor had no referral or names of specialists for them to contact; instead, just reiterated the fact that she would not be there for Emily during this pregnancy to deliver this baby! They came home devastated, overwhelmed and scared without a doctor to help them through this very difficult time. Within the next few weeks, after much research and help from concerned friends, they found a group of doctors and medical specialists at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI that concentrate on special births and have been medically and emotionally supportive to Emily and Jeremy.
The past few weeks have been extremely difficult with the tasks of going to the cemetery to pick out a tiny casket, a memorial and a plot where Dalilah will be laid to rest shortly after birth. All of the doctors, specialists, funeral expenses and overwhelming grief have been beyond heartbreaking to handle for a young couple.
Sweet Dalilah is our little angel and will earn her wings shortly after birth. Our little angel will be watching over her parents and sister from heaven. But, Emily and Jeremy have a long road ahead of them as the pregnancy continues and knowing their little angel will die shortly after birth. With extremely high medical bills and unexpected funeral expenses, Emily’s aunts and uncles have decided to start a GO FUND ME PAGE to help this young couple grieve, to be able to go on without their baby and to continue caring for their 1 ½ year old daughter.
