Wine Country Fire Livestock Victims

Donation protected
Hi Everyone,

This campaign is being managed by me for Orinda Horsemen's Association: orinda-horsemen.com .

Sonoma County and Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds have been accepting large animals evacuated from the Wine Country Fires since Monday.  Each location now has several hundred animals.  The fairgrounds policy is that owners are responsible for their animals' care, but this is financially impossible for those that have lost everything.  The Fairgounds are not turning anyone away in this disaster, and they need help.

Orinda Horsemen's Association is a cooperative of horse owners who lease pastureland from EBMUD.  We know what it's like to love an animal so much, we'd risk everything rather than leaving it behind in an emergency.   We are not in horse ownership for the money - most of us don't have much, and we all pitch in to take care of our animals as a group.  However, we want to help.  Several of us have trucks and trailers.  Due to road closures and changing conditions, we can't get up to the fire to help evacuate, but we CAN deliver supplies to those that need it.

Please consider donating any amount - your $5 will buy a bale of hay for a hungry animal, or a garden hose to provide water to quench their thirst.  $10 will buy a water bucket.  $50 will pay for a prescription medication that had to be left behind.  Your funding means that an owner will not have to make the heartwrenching decision to abandon or destroy their animal because of these fires - today, or - we hope - ever.   Your donation means that the Fairgrounds can keep the animals fed, watered and housed until they can go home.

We will arrange delivery of supplies on October 13th to the Fairgrounds, based on donations received and our own members' hauling capacity.  If there is enough left over, we'll create a fund for needy owners and their animals, to help see them through the coming weeks.

Thank you for your help.  If you've seen the pictures and videos that are flooding the internet, you know how dire the situation is.  Anything we can do to ease a worried owner's mind, and make a displaced animal more comfortable, will be life-changing right now.
