I spent most my life on the water and as a teenager windsurfing became a huge part of my life. When I was in middle school I was invited to a windsurfing camp. I was hooked the first time. I jumped at every opportunity to get on the water. Not only was it something I enjoyed, it helped me get in better health.

I soon started advancing in the sport and began teaching lessons and competing. I had and actually still have Olympic dreams.

My love for the water has never gone away. God has given me a wife and two kids. My wife also grew up with a love for water sports and youth. We’ve spent countless hours together surfing, paddleboarding, kayaking, and more. Over the past seven years, my wife and I have run an outdoor website. The site has grown into a paddleboard and kayak outfitter business called Outdoor Gulf Coast .

It's our passion to get families on the water together to explore new skills. Along the way, we desire to have an avenue for helping disadvantaged, at-risk families. Far too many families have never been to the beach before while living less than 20 miles away. There’s numerous research on the benefits of the outdoors on people’s health especially along coastal areas.

Where did windsurfing go?

In the late 80's windsurfing began to die. The sport became expensive and gear was for the more high tech. Today windsurfing continues, but mainly in smaller groups around Europe and the US. I believe the sport of windsurfing is about to get its second wind and emerge again as a popular sport. Companies like Kona windsurfing are already paving the way.

Goal: Start Outdoor Gulf Coast Windsurfing School

We've desired to add windsurfing to our company for a while. I've carried a desire to teach windsurfing lessons again. Not long ago a desire was birthed in me to begin competing and teaching others how to windsurf.

It's been a dream of mine to help bring windsurfing back to the Florida/Alabama Gulf Coast and to share my excitement with others in my community and anyone who’d like to visit our white sandy beaches and emerald waters. (Voted #1 Best Beach in Florida)

Equipment Today & Price Breakdown 

The equipment available today has come a long way. A few windsurfing companies today are starting to realize the need for gear that everyone can use. The boards being designed today for beginners are stable and perfect for learning on. The Kona One Design and Hula windsurfing boards work well in light wind and heavy wind making it ideal choice for the Pensacola Bay Area.

Paddleboarding has become popular in recent years. Now some paddle boards can also be used as windsurfers. Families can enjoy paddling and sailing all on the same board.

Here’s a breakdown of the equipment I plan to purchase. Prices listed below are approximate prices.

Boards:

3 Hula - Great entry level board for teaching lessons. It’s very stable making it easy to learn on. 

Rigs (sails)

Approximately 4-5 rigs. Prices range from $300-$800
