Following on from our peaceful @people_protest last Saturday we are now planning to unite this Monday 22nd June alongside our community for Windrush Day 2020 - a peaceful socially distant protest performance packed with live music, stories and poetry. Standing in solidarity with the Windrush Generation, highlighting the Windrush Scandal whilst celebrating the Windrush legacy!
Led by Jamil Nazmi, the Nazmi Foundation is an initiative which strives to support, nurture and elevate the young, elderly and working class people, by creating new systems of education and care within communities.
1 PM - 6 PM // Newington Green Roundabout
2 PM-5 PM // Online live stream & community focused fundraiser
We'll be marking our 3rd annual celebration of this Windrush Day, and celebrating 72 years since the arrival of a large contingent of immigrants that became known as the WINDRUSH GENERATION. These pioneers and WINDRUSH WARRIORS arrived on HMT EMPIRE WINDRUSH that docked on the evening of the 21st of June 1948.
We're only looking for expenses to cover our costs of putting on this protest. We've also got a song titled 'Windrush Warrior' that's going to be premiered and made available for purchase with any profits going to the Alzheimers charity'
Your support will mean that we are recompensed to pay for our costs of putting on this protest performance particularly during these times of loneliness and isolation caused by lockdown.....
