Wina's Outstanding Vet Bill

Wina (Vee-na), is a special 3 year old Pittie girl who belongs to my close friend and coworker, Jenny Ciesla.
Jenny brought Wina to MedVet Chicago on Tuesday, October 24th for vomiting and lethargy. Wina has a history of getting into mischief and eating things that she shouldn't. Jenny assumed that while she was out of town, Wina may have chewed something up and was possibly obstructed. Wina's tail was still wagging that morning but you could tell she wasn't her goofy, hyper self. Dr. Ashley Gold signed her up for an abdominal ultrasound and she stayed with us awaiting her turn. Busy, as MedVet usually is, her ultrasound happened late in the day and there were no abnormal findings.
By the end of the day, Wina was visibly much worse. You could tell she was uncomfortable and was much more dull than earlier in the day. At that time, we decided to check some labwork. Wina's chemistry returned and showed marked kidney and liver failure. This was suspected to be secondary to leptosporosis- a bacterial infection spread through the urine of infected animals. Wina was hospitalized and started on IV fluids, antibiotics, antiemetics, and a nasogastric feeding tube was place to help supplement nutrition.
Today, one week after being admitted to the hospital and $8200 later, Wina is finally being discharged! She is stable enough to go home where she will continue her road to recovery. She will return to MedVet periodically over the next few months to have her kidney and liver values evaluated. Jenny and our team could not be more thrilled that she pulled through!
Although Jenny works at MedVet, her bill will still be outstanding even after an employee discount is applied and will take her an excessive amount of time to pay off. Anyone who knows Jenny Ciesla knows what a good heart she has. Her dogs are her children and she would go above and beyond for them, which she has immensely.
