FRIDAY, OCT. 12 (as WILSON FAMILY REBUILDING FUND: $6,260)
As you'll see in this story that my former employer, The Washington Post, published, my parents, Leroy and Annell Wilson, are selfless people who are too busy helping others in my hometown, Marianna, Fla., and doing what little they can on their own instead of seeking help (https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/i-wasnt-going-anywhere-on-land-of-former-slaves-a-sturdy-home-gives-shelter-from-the-storm/2018/10/11/48e13bb2-cd7b-11e8-a3e6-44daa3d35ede_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.bdadda77affa).
But they do need help right now. They are 73 & 74; my father has recently had double knee & hip replacement. My mother is a breast cancer & thyroid disease survivor & has severe bursitis.
I'm in Atlanta gathering supplies to take to them as soon as I'm able this weekend. You may miss it in the Post story, but Hurricane Michael demolished several of our families' home. The one in which my family is now living is not habitable long term. Although we have wind & hurricane insurance, we expect that getting the help we need will be a tedious, uphill battle.
We need funds *now* to purchase generators, get ice, & other provisions until help comes. Yesterday, FEMA turned us down as trucks passed through our town because our county has not been added to its disaster lists. We can only depend upon ourselves—& you. Please give whatever you can.
