William's Conference Fund
My name is William and I am a graduate student studying American and British Literature. I have been a teacher for a while, but this year I left the classroom to pursue my dream of earning a PhD and teaching in the university setting. I am just finishing up my first semester of my masters programs and I will be applying to PhD programs this time next year.
Presenting at conferences is one thing that can help me grow as a scholar, better my chances with top PhD programs, and sometimes even lead to publication. English conferences are like conferences in any field of work: people come together and share new ideas and discuss upcoming projects and the future of the field.
I recently had one of my ideas accepted to Euroacademia's Third Forum of Critical Studies and I cannot express how excited I am. My research focuses on the literature ten years before the American Civil War and how Northern authors portrayed both black and white Southerners. I enjoy studying literature in close connection with culture and I think people reading my paper will learn as much about American society, history, and popular media as they will about the books and newspapers of the early 1850s. I am proud of my project and I would love to present it; however, the conference is in Florence, Italy, and I need help funding the trip.
The Euroacademia conference is one of the earliest of the year so I have very little time to raise funds. My goal is to get to Italy to present my paper, but if I can't, there are other conferences here in the United States that I have already submitted my proposal to. Those conferences will still require expenses for traveling, hotels, and registration fees, so any help toward future conferences would be greatly appreciated.
This is my calling. I love every minute of research and every minute of writing my findings and I am excited for the opportunity to share my ideas with people around the world. Thank you for reading about me and thank you for any help you can provide to help me reach my goals.
