Willows IVDD Surgery
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Alyssa, and I'm raising money to pay for my sweet baby's IVDD surgery.
IVDD stands for intervertebral disc disease; it's a common risk for Dachshunds but not one we've ever faced after generations of Dachshund parenthood.
We got Willow while my Mom was scrolling through Facebook one day and she came across an ad in the Dachshund group about a lovely couple who had taken on the responsibility of selling a litter of Dashchunds. The owner had fallen ill and could no longer care for them, we saw a picture of her, and fell in love, and after school I was in the car to go pick up our new baby. It took her a minute to warm up but once she did she was a firecracker! Every morning my Mom wakes up to Willow staring 2 inches from her face waiting to start the day, from morning to night shes a ball of energy.
Whether its protecting the backyard from squirrels, annoying her senior brother, or chasing toys down the hallway she is a dog on the go and we like to keep it that way.
As a family we've always loved to spend time outdoors and she is right there with us, walking the trails of the River Valley, gardening in the backyard, or climbing mountains in Banff and Jasper (see the video with the amazing water for proof). Even when she stops for a moment to eat or drink she doesn't sit, it's closer to a ... squat? That says "I'm ready to go!"
So when our sweet adventuring girl started losing control of her back legs we knew it was trouble. A vet visit told us we were in the right to not jump to surgery immediately and give her some more kennel rest to see if she improves.
March 25th, 2024 she was still wobbly and struggling on her back legs but nothing worse than before; on March 26th she was completely unable to stand and dragging herself the little bit we would allow, for self-assessment, before scooping her back into bed.
As of March 27th, she has gone in for surgery. It's going to be a difficult surgery on her, it's going to be months before she can do nearly what she previously could, but as you can see it's a necessity for this brave little gal.
We are a single-parent household with 2 full-time students and all working retail jobs, this cost is not something we can cover alone.
The current total is listed covers the vet visit to confirm the issue at hand and the entire bill for the surgery. Every single dollar is greatly appreciated and will be going straight to her medical bills. If somehow we surpass this goal we've decided to donate any extras to the Alberta Dachshund Rescue, as that's where we're based.
UPDATE: Shes come home March 29th and is on the path to recovery!
