Help Create Young Entrepreneurs in Baltimore

Donation protected

COR Health Institute is pleased to announce the launch of our capital campaign to develop the William L. Adams Entrepreneurial Institute (WAEI).

The institution will become another anchoring community facility that provides business education programs and services to help young individuals to initiate community based businesses. To date, COR has raised $120,000 - nearly one third of the total projected construction cost of the WEAI project, which is $380,000.

This project follows our first successful attempt of buying and converting vacant homes in East Baltimore. In December 2015, we bought 4 vacant homes which have been converted into a state-of-the-art community fitness and martial arts facility; the current headquarters for COR Health Institute.

The new WAEI is located just one block south of the COR Health Institute and is being constructed using two vacant houses. This project is a direct solution to the myriad of issues facing this neighborhood including the lack of available outlets and support for economic development. In our neglected and crime infested neighborhood in the 21213 district, the following statistics help to illustrate an understanding of the socioeconomic factors contributing to the decay of this community.

·       In 2019, 69.5% of youth between the ages of 16 and 19 were unemployed in Maryland’s 7th Congressional District.

·       The median household income is only $33,000.00.

·        The crime rate is currently over 40% above the Baltimore City average.

·       Half of all children live with parents who do not have secure employment.

·       Less than 15% of residents have a bachelor's degree or higher.

The WAEI project highlights our commitment, resourcefulness and creativity for addressing several community challenges through innovative, bold, and self-directed action. The purpose of this initiative is to help young people develop entrepreneurial ideas that will generate sustainable income. This income  can be used to grow their businesses and maintain a livelihood which results in the ability to break cycles of poverty, apathy, and desolation.

Theo Rodgers, CEO of A&R Development, has supported this project and provided us with the honor of naming the facility after William L Adams, his former partner and prominent Baltimore business executive who was a leading figure in the entrepreneurial and political development of Baltimore City.

This GoFundMe page has been created to receive donations to assist with the completion of this project. More information about COR Health Institute and the William Adams Entrepreneurial Institute can be found at www.corcommunity.com/williamadams
