Dear Friends, Colleagues and Supporters of William F. Pepper, Esq.
This is a post-op update on Bill's health and home.
I'm Matt, a cabinetmaker working out of Redhook, Brooklyn.
With a few other friends, I've been visiting my friend Bill in his Harlem rehabilitative nursing home. His surgeon is happy with the results of the hip operation, but we need to get Bill home asap. To that end, Eric and I have been doing some work in his apartment, including installing a number of safety-rail grab bars, in the hallways and bathroom. We are hoping to give the place a good cleaning, too. $300 out of a 15k goal... Going to Lowes tomorrow !
[Update 9/19: Eric has all safety rails installed. Kitchen sink-counter replaced and dishwasher is working. Bill is set to return home within days. Gratitude to those of you who kicked in donations. At the very least, it allowed us to purchase the materials and install that stuff.]
The aim was to aide recovery from his surgery AND help him step more firmly into the digital age. It was a nice thought. Maybe with wider reach on this campaign, it could still happen. If anyone reading this would be able to help us along, now would be great.

Bill's been a true inspiration to me and, as you likely know--countless others. When he was stuck in the hospital for two months in 2022, I had the privilege of keeping him company. I learned of his Vietnam helicopter crash when he was there many decades ago as a photojournalist (the origin of his hip problems). I walked into his room once just when the British writer Tariq Ali had called to praise him and wish him a speedy recovery. Bill then told me of his connection to Pakistan, and his defense of Zulfikar Bhutto, former president/prime minister. Later I got the scoop on the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, and a little later, the real story of FDR's death. Hmmm.

After discussions with doctors, Bill decided to go for the second hip replacement surgery. This procedure held the promise of freeing him from some of the ongoing pain, and as of now (9/6) it seems to have worked. But, we gotta get him outta there! He needs to be at home, pursuing appropriate physical-therapy regimens, petting his cat in his office, etc. [Update: he's home !]
It'd be great if we could set up his office a bit nicer, with a podcast studio. By upgrading his gear—computers, mics, and headphones--we could connect the repressed story of MLK and the state assassination apparatus with the next generation. The NYC region radio station WBAI does its best to do that--using interviews in their premiums during the week of MLK Day to educate people on the real story. Let's be direct now, can't we? For the man who put in the work to uncover the real story--he really needs our help.
To re-cap: we're asking for funds to some cover studio equipment, 30 hours of tech support, and some miscellaneous essential household stuff. Plus, some ongoing nutritious meals and bone-health supplements
Got questions or comments on how to improve this campaign?
Are you a close friend? maybe you can go visit and bring him his favorite kind of sandwich, and/or welcome him home this week. It's been a rough couple of years for our hero.

We can't thank you enough for your support. By helping us set up Bill's podcasting game, you'll not only help him heal but also ensure this history stays alive. Let's bridge the generation gap and help Bill pursue his next book (on FDR, apparently), and get the tech edge.
Your generosity will additionally bring the moral support Bill truly needs.
Note (Matt 9/19): Many of you have likely heard Jonathan Eig being interviewed here and there regarding his King, A life. NPR just did an hour-long segment with Eig, whose tome sites NONE of Bill's work. Yet another author, talking head, missing an opportunity to shine light on the true horror of secret, government orchestrated assassinations. The NPR segment wraps up by imploring us that King wanted us to be better people--awww! and that King's message in history has been "sugarcoated" up to this point (Eig's book). He said, upon being questioned about Hoover and boys: "I wouldn't go so far as to say they wanted someone to assassinate him". (!) Regarding the truth of the assassination, Eig's book could snidely be referred to as King, a Lie. NO? Those who realize the importance of Historical Truth must admit we are a saturation point with this cowardly sentimentalism and deference to secret power. Are you on Team Pepper? Make it count. Thanks.
