HELP! Our baby girl Ariana has a malignant brain tumour and we are beginning a dramatic fight for her life. Hi, my name is Ariana and I just turned 10 months. I was a thriving child; I was supposed to slowly learn how to talk and walk... Now it all has been replaced by only one goal which is to live. It started in the beginning of November 2021, I started to feel weaker, slept a lot and started vomiting even without food/water. Since then, I have been in the hospital far away from home, I am very scared, but I am also very brave and I fight because I want to live so much. My biggest dream is to tell my Mom one day how much I love her.

 

It's 11th November, instead of the three of us having a long weekend, we spent it at ER.

The worst possible diagnosis, a brain tumour. Something that none of us, even in our worst dreams could ever imagine. Our perfect daughter is seriously ill. The tumour caused hydrocephalus, which made Ariana feel extremely nauseous. On the same day, doctors placed a drain in Ariana’s head and we waited for the biopsies. This was not the end of bad news, the tumour was located in the brain stem, which is responsible for basic life functions. To make it worse, it is wrapped in a network of veins, vascularized, and it surrounds the main artery.

Ariana has undergone 5 surgeries in the last 3 weeks. Her tiny body is covered in cuts and bruises all over, but she coping so well and wants to fight! Despite the pain she feels every day, she still eagerly looks at her books and wants to play with rattles.

 

 

 

 

On 1st December, she was diagnosed with medulloblastoma. Medulloblastoma is a rapidly growing and highly malignant brain tumour, characterized by the WHO classification as stage IV neoplasm. This sounds like a life sentence but it is NOT! Her tumour is treatable.

In Poland this type of tumour is usually treated with radiotherapy, but it is not performed on children younger than 3 years of age. Radiation is very dangerous and causes irreversible defects in the developing brain.

Despite this, there is great hope, there is only one place in the world where Ariana has a chance to fully recover. This is at St. Louis Children's Hospital in the United States. Doctors have developed a method of treating this type of tumour, which according to medical publications of research results gives as much as 85% chance of a complete cure.

 

 

 

 

The therapy consists of administering high doses of targeted chemistry, with the earlier collection and then transplantation of stem cells from the bone marrow. Once the chemistry has reset the entire body, the cells are able to rebuild it. The process is repeated up to three times.

This is a method that is only used on children. No adult would survive it, no one, except a child, has the ability to recover. After the treatment is completed, the organism is completely cleared. All vaccinations that have been given since birth must be repeated.

This is a great opportunity that medicine gives us. Currently, in Poland, we are waiting for the next surgery and we sincerely hope that doctors will manage to reduce the tumour as much as possible. This will give us an even greater chance of successful therapy in the USA.
