Running with Purpose: My Half Marathon Fundraiser for Diabetes UK.
In 2023, I lost my dad — a loss that changed everything. He lived with diabetes, and it’s a condition that affects millions of people and families across the UK every single day. This year, I’m running the Cardiff Half Marathon on 5th October in his memory, raising money for Diabetes UK — a charity that works to improve lives, fund research, and support those living with diabetes.
When I started this journey, I couldn’t run for more than a minute without being completely out of breath. But something inside me said, “Start.” So, on 22nd July 2024, I began the Couch to 5K programme, and since then, I’ve run three times a week, every week.
I’ve been following a strict 15-week training programme, gradually increasing my distance, pace, and endurance. It hasn’t been easy — it’s come with a few falls, a bit of blood, plenty of sweat… but no tears — yet. Though I’m sure they’ll come at the finish line.
At first, I didn’t even plan to run for charity — I just wanted to challenge myself. But when someone asked if I’d considered running for a cause, Diabetes UK was the perfect fit. Now, I honestly can’t imagine running this race for anyone else.
My longest run so far is 16km, and I’m building up to the full 21.1km, aiming to complete the race in under 2 hours.
This run is about more than the miles — it’s about making a difference. Diabetes UK is doing incredible work to support those living with diabetes and to help prevent more families from going through the heartbreak of losing someone they love — like I did.
My goal is to raise at least £500 by race day. Every donation, no matter the size, helps me push harder — and helps Diabetes UK continue their life-changing work.
If you’re able to support me, I’d be so grateful — whether that’s through a donation, sharing this page, or simply cheering me on as I train and race.
Thank you!
