Wildlife Action Group Malawi (WAG)

Tax deductible

Hello,
My name is Lynn Clifford and I am Director of the Wildlife Action Group (WAG) in Malawi, Africa. WAG is a non-profit, grassroots NGO co-managing two governmental protected forest reserves in Central Malawi (Thuma Forest Reserve and Dedza-Salima Forest Reserve). Both are important biodiversity hotspots containing significant numbers of the remaining large mammals of Malawi including some of the last remaining escarpment elephants in Africa. We are seeing the elephant population increase little by little and are now reclaiming land which had been deforested; seeing it regenerate into its former glory, a rare phenomenon in Africa.

WAG works to stop illegal poaching of African wildlife (elephants, antelopes, monkeys, leopards) and stop deforestation of the forest reserves, to protect and conserve these important biodiversity hotspots which are some of the few protected areas where elephants and buffalo still live. We also work holistically with local communities to help protect and conserve the forest and wildlife through education, wildlife law enforcement and income generating activities. We are working in collaboration with the Abraham Foundation and asking your help to secure $30,000 USD towards our anti-poaching rangers’ salaries for the next year so they can continue to protect the elephants. Our scouts patrol on foot 365 days per year looking for illegal activity and also supporting and assisting communities living close to the forest with crop raiding elephants. This is more of a calling than a job; it is dangerous work that requires strong, brave scouts. All rangers are from the local area. They are trained and dedicated to this job and the protection of the elephants.

We need your help as we rely solely on donations for our funding. When you support a scout you are not only directly assisting our conservation efforts but are also assisting a Malawian to support his family and educate his children, including in most cases extended family members. Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world so this income is life-saving. Make a difference! Help protect some of the last remaining escarpment elephants in Africa by supporting our anti-poaching rangers. I know you can do it!
