<div><strong>Help Andronika Rebuild After the 2025 Attika Wildfire Destroyed Her Family Home</strong>

<div>On Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 16:00, a deadly wildfire struck Kryoneri, Greece. My mother, Andronika Tsiola, was inside our family home when the fire reached it. Her partner found her just as the windows were exploding and pulled her out through the smoke and flames—saving her life.

<div>The house—my grandmother’s home and the heart of our family for six generations—was completely destroyed. Along with it, we lost two apartments, filled with memories, family heirlooms, and the traces of those who came before us. But this loss goes beyond walls and belongings. We also lost two fully equipped craftsmanship workshops, where Andronika worked as an artist and teacher, living her dream and sharing it with others.

<div>Everything is gone.

<div>But this tragedy didn’t come without warning. In 2021, the Parnitha wildfire reached her very yard. Ever since, she lived in fear and repeatedly begged the authorities to implement a proper prevention plan for Kryoneri and surrounding areas. Her pleas were ignored. Her worst nightmare became reality.

<div>To make things worse, her brother’s house, built next to hers—as is common in Greek families—was also destroyed. Two more families—his and his daughters’—became homeless overnight. And now, we face a cruel paradox: we cannot even help one another, because we all lost our homes at once.

<div>Today, the Greek state provides little to no support. Instead of help, Andronika is forced to navigate trauma while fighting bureaucracy, as officials have falsely classified part of her destroyed home as “habitable” to avoid providing compensation. She is left alone, traumatised, and overwhelmed.

<div>Το Σάββατο 26 Ιουλίου 2025 στις 16:00, μια καταστροφική πυρκαγιά έπληξε το Κρυονέρι Αττικής. Η μητέρα μου, Ανδρονίκη Τσιόλα, βρισκόταν μέσα στο πατρικό μας σπίτι όταν η φωτιά το έφτασε. Ο σύντροφός της την εντόπισε τη στιγμή που έσπαγαν τα τζάμια από τη θερμότητα, και την τράβηξε έξω μέσα από τους καπνούς και τις φλόγες—σώζοντάς της τη ζωή.

<div>Το σπίτι—το σπίτι της γιαγιάς μου και η καρδιά της οικογένειάς μας εδώ και έξι γενιές—καταστράφηκε ολοσχερώς. Μαζί του χάθηκαν δύο διαμερίσματα, γεμάτα αναμνήσεις, οικογενειακά κειμήλια και η ιστορία μας. Όμως η απώλεια δεν σταματά εκεί. Μαζί με τα σπίτια, χάθηκαν και δύο πλήρως εξοπλισμένα εργαστήρια χειροτεχνίας, όπου η Ανδρονίκη εργαζόταν ως καλλιτέχνιδα και δασκάλα, ζώντας και μοιραζόμενη το όνειρό της.

<div>Όλα χάθηκαν.

<div>Κι όμως, αυτή η τραγωδία δεν ήταν απρόσμενη. Το 2021, η φωτιά της Πάρνηθας είχε φτάσει μέχρι την αυλή της. Έκτοτε ζούσε με τον φόβο και ικέτευε τις αρχές να λάβουν μέτρα πρόληψης για την περιοχή. Οι εκκλήσεις της αγνοήθηκαν. Ο εφιάλτης έγινε πραγματικότητα.

<div>Λίγα μέτρα πιο πέρα, το σπίτι του αδελφού της—όπως συνηθίζεται στις ελληνικές οικογένειες—καταστράφηκε επίσης. Δύο ακόμη οικογένειες—η δική του και των παιδιών του—έμειναν άστεγες από τη μια στιγμή στην άλλη. Σήμερα, βρισκόμαστε στο τραγικό σημείο να μην μπορούμε καν να βοηθήσουμε ο ένας τον άλλον, γιατί όλοι χάσαμε τα σπίτια μας ταυτόχρονα.

<div>Η στήριξη από το κράτος είναι σχεδόν ανύπαρκτη. Η Ανδρονίκη καλείται να αντιμετωπίσει το τραύμα της μόνη, ενώ παλεύει με την ελληνική γραφειοκρατία, αφού μέρος του κατεστραμμένου σπιτιού της χαρακτηρίστηκε παράλογα ως «κατοικήσιμο», μόνο και μόνο για να μην της δοθεί καμία αποζημίωση.
