Wildfire National Playwriting Competition 2021
The Wildfire National Playwriting Competition is an annual opportunity for playwrights under 30 to share and develop their work with the Major Matt Mason Collective. The collective has supported ten different playwrights over five years, with both financial support and development workshops.
This competition does not have an application fee, making it accessible for playwrights who are in the earlier stages of their career. A two-tiered, anonymous jury selects two plays from the pool of submissions, a winner and a runner up. The chosen plays will receive cash prizes and a workshopped reading that will be part of MMMC's Wildfire Showcase, presented in association with Sage Theatre's IGNITE! Festival.
The money raised through this campaign will go towards increased fees for jury members, larger cash prizes for both playwrights, as well as a fleshing out of some administrative costs.
We recognize that this is a difficult time for many and that continuing to support young artists takes on even more importance during a period that holds such uncertainty, especially within Canada's theatrical landscape. We want to help keep artists' heads held high as we move through this period of profound change.
Throughout this fundraising campaign if you donate $25 dollars or more you will receive a free Major Matt Mason Collective t-shirt. These are hot off the press and both the base t-shirt and the logo ink come in a variety of colours!
We appreciate and are grateful for any assistance you can provide through this campaign!
