For El Camino High School, the Boys and Girls track and field teams have been one of the most successful sports programs in the 41 year history of the school. Over the years, the boys team has won 11 league championships and 6 CIF championships. The girls team has won 11 league championships and 8 CIF championships. We have had literally hundreds of league and CIF individual event champions. Wildcat track and field definitely has a Winning Tradiation. The 2018 track and field season is coming soon. Last season was very successful for our program. Our combined (boys and girls jv and varsity teams) dual meet record was 29 wins and 3 losses! And, our girls team ended the season with another Avocado East League and CIF San Diego section Division I Championship! We hope to build on and continue that success this coming season.
But, we are in dire need of funds for our ever growing program. The money our school gets from the school district for athletics is minimal. Thus, our athletic department can only help out 4 or 5 of our 24 sports each year. We have a very large team of about 200 student athletes each season. Each year our program grows and becomes more costly to operate. It is very expensive to outfit our team members with proper, quality uniforms and warm ups as well as the training and competition equipment they need to train, compete at the highest level, and help them achieve their individual and team goals.
We must pay for our athletes to enter some of the high level invitational track meets they need to get the necessary competition. Our budget from the school covers approximately half of those meets. We are also hoping to supplement our coaches stipends. Currently, we have 5 paid stipends for coaches. But, with 200+ student athletes on the team, we need more quality coaches to give them the attention they require and deserve.
We are hoping to raise funds this year for the following:
1) New varsity team warm ups for both boys and girls
2) New uniform tops for our junior varsity boys team (they are currently wearing uniforms that are 15 years old)
3) Various equipment items needed for practice and competitions.
4) Coaches pay
5) Costs of invitational track meets
6) Transportation (bus) costs to and from track meets
