Wild Thing Emergency Food Provision

Wild Thing is a plant based cafe with social goals. Our focus is to make good food accessible for all. It can be said, that now is the time that those who are most vulnerable need access to food the most.
In March we launched our monthly community dinners. We had planned to run monthly dinners to bring people of the community together through food & to ensure everyone has access to good food. We wanted to ensure that we are still keeping our community dinners going during this crisis and we are aware that people need access to food now more than ever. We want to provide a larger provision than our previously planned monthly dinners as there is a much greater need.
We are raising funds to launch Wild Thing Emergency Community Meals as a contact free delivery service; for those who are most vulnerable and need access to food during this time. This will be a FREE delivery service. We are raising funds to cover the cost of food and delivery ONLY. All staff have very kindly volunteered their time to carry out this project.
We are currently engaging with third sector organisations ; Llamau and The Big Issue, who have identified service users who need this service so that they have access to food. These service users in particularly fall between the gaps of what services are currently being offered.
We will cook the food in the cafe (lone working) then deliver via van. We aim to do 2 deliveries a week with each delivery providing food for 3 days.
Our food deliveries will have 2 options:
-Prepped food that can be stored and reheated. For those who live alone or with a lack of cooking equipment.
-Raw ingredients for those who enjoy cooking and have access to cooking facilities. We would include recipes for the ingredients too.
We have a very small fund pot available to get us going, raised from our previous community dinner, but in order to carry out this service twice weekly we need to raise funds. We can continue this service for as long as we have the funds to do so. This is an essential service and it is crucial that we ensure all members of our society have access to food during this time.
All working conditions will put the health and safety of our staff first. This is extremely important for us as an organisation.
We understand that this is a difficult time for everyone, but if you can donate then please do so! Maybe you usually visit our cafe for porridge, cake , brunch or coffee. If you can donate what you’d usually spend at the cafe to us then that would be hugely appreciated!
