PURPOSE

The Orphanage (Fr. Joseph Trovato Home for Boys) shall potentially cater to the essentials of needy orphans within the territories surrounding the Middle-Sex County of Jamaica, namely: St. Ann, Clarendon and Manchester; and from Cornwall County: namely Trelawny, all within proximity of the proposed location of the home in Reid Town, Wild Cane, Saint Ann.

PROPOSED PROJECT AREA:

The site of  Fr. Joseph Trovato Home for Boys orphanage shall be located in Wild Cane, in the parish of Saint Ann, Jamaica. The place shall have all the amenities to facilitate the orphans feeling at home. The community in which the site shall exist is one known to be violence free and is one heavily influenced by Christian behaviour and practices. The community also has a recreational activity play field, suitable for sporting activities to help the orphans harness their energies in a positive and meaningful way. Additionally, the residence shall have dormitory rooms, an assembly point, and hall, kitchen, bathrooms and wash areas, as well as land space to facilitate gardening and or back yard farming where produce can be consumed by the occupants.

PROJECT GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

This project is geared towards addressing the shelter, food, education, health, and social developmental needs of each orphan. It shall provide:

• Opportunity for (up to 40) orphans, semi-orphans to live in a suitable, balanced

and comfortable environment that seeks to transform their lives and result in them achieving

  their life goals.

•  To provide the basic necessities of food, shelter, clothing, healthcare, and education for up to

40 orphans, semi-orphans of Fr. Joseph Trovato Home for Boys.

•To impart proper values and attitudes, morals and principles to serve as a chart and compass directing their lives, strengthening their capacities of self-reliance within the community of Wild Cane and Jamaica as a whole.

• To integrate children of Fr. Joseph Trovato Home for Boys into the community of Wild Cane as part of their socialization and general upbringing.

THE NEED:

The crippling and ravaging effects of crime and violence, disease and death, migration and neglect have left many of our orphans in vulnerable positions. This reality is coupled with the fact that the ‘ruthless killer’ of poverty is wreaking havoc on homes and families leaving many children to resort to the streets as hustlers, and being recruited into gangs, trained to become mules in the drug trafficking business, being exploited by prostitution as well as suffering from the ills of human trafficking.  If help is not given, we are going to lose them and tarnish their chance to accomplish a bright and promising future.

TARGET GROUP OF THE PROJECT:

Fr. Joseph Trovato Home for Boys focuses on orphans ages 6-16 years old who are marooned from parents and proper supervision. They will also cater to the disadvantaged, the outcasts, the neglected, and the abandoned, who are not being cared for by one or both parents, and or those who are living in less than desirable conditions without the supervision of responsible adults as guardians or caregivers, and who live in poor socio-economic situations.

THE GOALS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

One of the most important fundamentals is to ensure that orphans of the Fr. Joseph Trovato Home for Boys are cared for in a transformational way; thereby, making them global citizens who have access to proper education at a tender age, whilst living in a habitable and stable environment.

Secondly, Fr. Joseph Trovato Home for Boys shall work to help guarantee the rights of orphans in need of special care and protection through strengthened policies, standards and capacities of caregivers and service providers, providing continued educational best practices and training tools to increase the capacity of the worker force and those receiving care.

Thirdly, the Fr. Joseph Trovato Home for Boys shall support national policies, plans and legislation in partnership with key partners such as:

•            The Child Development Agency

•            The Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN)

•            The Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ)

•            The Jamaica Coalition on the Rights of the Child

WHAT THE SUPPORT WILL MEAN TO REALIZING THIS VISION?

It means everything! Providing a comfortable home for disadvantaged orphans who are socially disenfranchised and marginalized because of circumstances they did not create for themselves, or choose for themselves, but have become victims as a result of. It is necessary to realize this vision and all contributions towards this venture is welcoming.

HOW SOON DO WE NEED THE FUNDS?

The project has started and funding is needed immediately to meet timelines and targets in terms of phase completion.

HOW GRATEFUL WILL WE BE FOR THE HELP?

Extremely! Every contribution goes towards saving a life, redirecting their energies and inspiring hope in them to realize their goals in life.
